Laptop not charging?

Hey!
Since this morning, my laptop battery doesn't seem to be charging - I've left it on charge all day, but the annoying orange light is still flashing.
How can I check to see if it's charging, and if not, how can I make it charge?
I've taken a look at Dell, and they're after £100 for a battery (looks like I can get one for about £30 from ebay...)
any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

To see if its working, there should be a battery icon at the bottom right hand side of your screen, near the time. If not, go to Start, Control Panel, Power Settings and then look for a box that seas 'display icon in tray'' or something similar. This should tell you if your laptop is charging or not.
Another obvious way is to just pull the power cable out while that laptop is on.
If the battery is not charging, there is not much you can do to fix it. You can try taking it out and leaving it out for a day or two.
BTW Dell are a rip off. eBay is the best place for batterys.

eBay is the best place for batterys.

Not always, check the feedback, some sellers sell dangerous fakes - experience!
You could try putting the discharged battery in the freezer overnight, let it come back up to room temp and then try recharging it. Put it in a plastic bag to keep it dry!A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
I have a Dell. It suddenly stopped working. It turned out the battery was dead... and the odd thing was that in order to use the laptop I had to remove the battery completely, it would work plugged in with the battery removed, but it would not work just plugging it in with the battery left in.
I looked into prices at the time and Dell were cheaper than anything I could find on ebay or online.0
