Error message 1935 when installing new software

Hi

I have tried to install two new pieces of software over the past two days, and have experienced error 1935 on both occasions. The full message on one is " error 1935. an error occurred during the installation of assembly microsoft msxml2r processor architecture = x86 win32 version 4.1.0.0. public key token 6bd6b9abf345378f" and then refers me to help and support where I have spent the past 2 days searching but not finding what I need for successful installation.

The latest thing I have read on another page ( another person with a similar problem to mine) advised to look into rebuilding affected msxml files. I have looked that up, but don't want to wade in to something I really don't understand without knowing that this is an answer to my problem and without asking for help in my specific case. I am using Vista.

I've had great advice before from the glorious techies on this site and would truly appreciate more of the same ( in as basic terms as possible please :) ).

Many thanks in advance

Lorna

  • That error may be a sign of an anti-malware program that is preventing the installer from writing to the registry.

CTRL+ALT+DEL, end any process associated with your anti-virus and any other anti-malware programs you have in your system and then rerun the installer for those programs you're trying to install.

Many, many thanks for that suggestion. I had to uninstall my anti-virus , set up software and reinstall a-v again, but it has finally worked and I can finally get to work. You have saved my sanity ( such as it is )as I was getting nowhere fast.
Happy Easter, and thank you again, much appreciated.

  • Glad it worked. :)

If you encounter that problem again, you should try using services.msc* to stop/temporarily disable your anti-virus shield, which is the bit of your anti-virus that was preventing those programs from writing to the registry. That's a lot less hassle than having to uninstall and reinstall your anti-virus every time that happens. ;)

*Start --> Run --> services.msc --> click on 'Status' column to bunch all the Started processes together --> look for entries with your anti-virus name --> right click on every anti-virus entry --> Stop

Thanks again, I really appreciate that tip. That's another thing off my "never make the same mistake twice" list. Sadly , there are always loads of new ones to make LOL.
Your help is much appreciated, all the best, Lorna
