It can be fixed but if you send it off for repair it will probably an awful lot and a new laptop may be a better idea.

However if you scour ebay you may be abel to find a screen cheap or a broken laptop like yours but with a good screen. Then it may be viable to fix it if you or someone you know is handy witha screwdriver.

I am pretty handy with a screwdriver do you think i would be able to do it myself.

Or do you think it would be better if i bought a screen and used that instead?

I did a replacement screen for a friend, they bought off of Ebay.

Apparently they got it for £120 ( a firm that specialises in lcd replacements), and I just had to take the lid housing to pieces and swap it over. Simple really. Difficult bit was finding how to take the lid apart without breaking it!

You could use a separate screen with it but then you'd lose the only advantage a laptop has over a desktop.

Laptops can be tricky to take apart and obviously buying a replacement screen and then breaking your latop tryign to fix it could prove expensive.

I'd do some googling first to see if I could find out how to take it apart and then see how much a replacement screen is.

really depends on the model - in some models you will need to open the base part of the laptop too. In the majority though, the screen screws are hidden underneath small stickers around the edge of the screen. These can be gently peeled off with a small (watchmakers) screwdriver. Make sure you remove the battery first - the screen is powered thru a high voltage converter board and can give a really nasty shock.
I really recommend you get someone who has experience of doing this to do the job for you - one error and you've got a dead laptop, but can take an experienced technician 5 minutes.

Plug in your model number and 'lcd' into ebay and i'm certain it will be there.

Bear in mind what rdpro is saying, and theres not much to fitting it. Have a fiddle around in advance and see if you can get the old one out first.

We use special plastic wedges to prevent damaging the casing, but a fairly rigid spatula will do the same job, or cut up a plastic ruler.
