Switching to Eon - crossed meters

Hi.

I have recently put in place a switch from npower to eon for electricity. We have 2 Mpan numbers and the switch was all going smoothly. However, I have been on the phone to Eon today and they think there's a case of crossed meters. Ie, One of the Mpan's is correct to my address (and has been switched), however the Mpan npower have for me, isn't for my address but rather for my nextdoor neighbour, and according to the Electricity master database and it should be different. We only have one meter (four readings).

So I am to be contacted by the crossed meters team tomorrow and was wondering what is this all leading to. Am I paying for someone elses electricity? Can I just forget all this, not have the hassle to save a few quid a year, and just move back to npower, and ask eon to just transfer back the Mpan number which has been switched already?

Help (and thanks)!

We switched from British Gas to Ebico last December, we then had a letter last month from Ebico saying they're sorry to hear that we're leaving. A phone call to Energywatch soon sorted it!!! It turned out that someone in a nearby street had my meter registered to his address and he was switching from British Gas to someone else.

All the bills were correct as meter readings were the right ones.
  • After almost 2 months since initially trying to switch, I am moving back to Npower. I got fed up with all this, rung npower this morning to ask what to do (told to go through to the erroneous transfers dept in Eon) and ask to switch back. I got a phonecall back after being told the person couldn't get through to the dept, and was told by the lady that I can transfer back (HOORAH!!!):j :j :j , but I have to tell them about this cross meter thing. It sounds like the central database just needs updating (an administration problem), but I'll sort that all out when I know I am back with npower and eon is in the past!

I then rung back npower and was told that a new account would be created for me with the switch back, and the supply number they didn't change would move to that new account. Therefore, I assume they will ask for meter readings in the next few weeks to end my hassle with eon (for good) and start a new bill with npower.

The irony... the pricing structure I switched to was going to probably end in April, and I probably wouldn't have been able to take advantage of the tarriff!

Electricity switching really isn't that easy... and I fear this is not the end!!
