Wow--- can they take the tax disc? apart from the fact that they have left it untaxed (or failure to display) they have not actually paid for the tax???

    Can someone advise??

When my car was stolen the recovery company took my tax disc and send it off for a refund and I was told then that as they had taken it without my consent it was theft, but I guess permission to take it was given in this instance?

Christweed have you checked that the bailiffs licence is current and not revoked or expired? They may have all the right looking badges etc but you need to check them out.

Hi, I see what you mean about giving permission. I was also concerned that they had left a car without a tax disc displayed which is an offence.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but as its reg to christweed I dont suppose they are bothered. They wont be bothered as it would still be seen as christweed commiting the offence, as its all in his name. I think I would be inclined to ring and declare it SORN, then they will be commiting an offence if they take it onto the road next week. Chris, get the car moved asap, even if you have to get it on a pick up lol.

Dotstar, get that goat locked up :D

It certainly looks as though these 'clowns' are behaving very unprofessionally.
I would imagine that, by removing the Tax Disc, they are comitting a criminal offence, and I would be tempted to report that as theft.
Bailffs must conform to certain regulations and codes of practice, but it seems as though these 'thugs' think that it is they who write the rules.
May I suggest that you contact Herbie21 - I will ask her to look at your thread - or look at her website - http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk

I suppose it comes down to whether Chris handed the tax disc over or the bailiff removed it?

Yes, indeed, but also 'how' these people 'asked' for the tax disc, and whether or not they 'misled' Chris over his rights.
