Bad couponing experience in Waitrose.

My local Waitrose's has been taking up to three MOCs as long as they have the product in their system and they accept duplicate ones too, so I have been using 2 Marie Claire coupons + another moc for the past month and there was never any problem. However, a young chap at the checkout today took a while inspecting the mocs and told me that he can only take 1 Marie Claire moc coz it's quite a high value. I politely asked him that I thought Waitrose does take duplicate coupons, he said yes but they really shouldn't been seen taking more than 1 duplicate moc with such high value. I thought about asking him to call their till supervisor/manager but he was very polite and nice, so I decided not to cause any trouble.
so, I got home and was putting my shopping away in places, I found the eggs I bought from Waitrose has cracked, I was a bit fed up because this is the 3rd times this month that I bought the cracked eggs!!! so I ask my OH to go back to the store and get it exchanged. After explaining to CS on duty, the CS who served my OH just replied: it's egg, they crack, what do you expect. my OH told them it's not the first time but actually 3 times in a row for us(Yeah I know, really unlucky
,) the CS just kept saying "but they are eggs." Anyway, the CS gave in at the end and asked my OH to go and get a new box of egg. Then, my OH asked if he could have the money back because he's buying some stuff and doesn't want to have to explain everything again at the checkout. The CS said no, twice, insisting my OH has got the receipt so it'll be fine at the checkout. But CS also gave in because my OH insisted it.
My OH also tried to use marie calire mocs and internet mocs at the checkout. This time round, a young girl at the checkout looked totally puzzled and have absolutely no idea what to do with it, she pressed the bell and guess what, the egg CS came round and told my OH that they don't take the moc unless the product on the moc has been bought. When My OH pointed out that Waitrose does take 3 mocs even if we didn't buy the product, the CS just said she will allow only one moc this time. Needless to say, she also say the same thing with internet moc - they will only take 1 internet moc per transaction.
Wondered if Waitrose is now changing their coupon policy? I hope we are just VERY unlucky today and that's all it was. I'm gonna give waitrose a week rest at least, don't want to be recognised though.....

I did, I always did, but the crack was on the side of the egg and difficult to spot. I guess I just had to find a place to moan and let out my steam.:p0 -
Oh dear, it's not just Waitrose that is inconsistent when it comes to coupons, I find that Tesco and Sainsbury are just as bad.Hoping this year is better than the last.0

Marvellous, I must try out the big Waitrose a few miles away, soon! I believe the policy is indeed just as you state - but each store can impose their own limit.
There is a small Waitrose in town near me but they only take 3 MOCS (which isn't much by my usual Tescoing standards). Also, like the OP says, they have got a little sniffy about it in there recently. Maybe it's because I spend £3.50 each time and hand over 3 MOCS totalling £3.25.......;)PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

We use waitrose regularly with coupons.
I think it's taking the michael a bit expecting them to take 2 identical internet prints (esp the print as many as you like ones). Why didn't you use the Ugo instead or a DM even?
Seriously I would try to stick to 1 printed coupon per shop if they're only taking 3. You can always pop back in and use a different cashier0 -
Do you think its acceptable to split your shopping in Waitrose into two shops so you can use double the coupons or not?
I have only been once to my Waitrose as its a fair way away from me but felt a bit uncomfortable using the coupons in there.
I asked at CS what I was allowed to use and she said max of 6 coupons. When I got to the till, the young girl said only three but I told her what cs has said and she did allow me to use 5 but still felt uncmfortable doing it.Stopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
I did ask my local Waitrose about their policy last month because I want to play it by the rules to avoid any moment-of-rejection-embarrassment. They told me I can use 3 moc and it doesn't matter how much is the total spend.
I never use same internet moc in one transaction, the Marie Claire I got was from newspaper though.0 -
One Waitrose near me will accept 6 coupons, another 3, and the other 5 in one transaction, with no minimum spend. But, not all of the people at checkout know the coupon policy, so I only go to the folks that do. The manager's and CS members all have different views on the policy as well so it can be very exhausting. Find a handful of people at your store that know the policy and stick with them.I :heart2: Waitrose0

I'm fairly surprised at Waitrose's coupon acceptance in the first place. In any event, if I have a transaction anywhere that doesn't take all the coupons etc then I don't worry about it. I just hope for better luch next time and I'd never try to dictate policy to the cashier or demand CS gets called over. I always view coupon acceptance as a bonus.
If there is one store I find a pleasure to shop in then it's Waitrose. I do big shops in Tesco but only for CC points to convert to BA miles. I despise the whole experience of being in Tesco compared to somewhere like Waitrose. I am surprised Waitrose wants to encourange people with fistfuls of coupons arguing about the policy and complaining when things don't work out. Their staff in my view are the most friendly and helpful store staff of any retail outlet (with the other supermarkets at the other end of the scale). Their target market is totally different than Tesco's and as a result tends to attract people who are prepared to or are able to pay more for better quality products and a more pleasurable shopping experience.0
