    Thanks for replies. :)

It looks like it should definately be ok to go down this route. I'm much happier now than I was this morning, lol.

With regard to the bath...it was a carronite version I was intending installing. The guarantee for these baths is 50 years so it must be a quality bath I would think. I've just found out the one I wanted only comes in 1700 and not 1800 length.

I wish things would just be easy for once!

So 1700 with a tiled ledge at one end then? Useful for the shampoo!

Mmmmm....might have to be, but I'm not giving up just yet! Lol. I really wanted that extra 10cms! :D I also want really deep though and it looks like you can't get long and deep together!

There are actually very few really deep ordinary baths (not whirlpool or air baths etc). You be surprised how hard it is to track down anything other than standard. Carron did a really deep one which is a good bit deeper than my existing bath but just not in 1800.

A few others I came across touted themselves as being deep but they held much less water in litres. I can only assume that's because the overflow is lower in the bath? The sides might be deep but that's no use if you can't fill the thing up.

Does anyone else have problems like this or is it just me being fussy? :D

This is the second time I've been accused of this today, lol.

I've just re-read my last post and it does read a bit iffy I have to admit. I wrote it whilst talking to my daughter at the same time, so wasn't fully concentrating. Honest. :o

I only used a smilie there as although I wanted a longer bath, I did realise I was probably causing too much hassle for such a small amount. :)

    (slinks off in embarrassment.......)

  • Another instance to back up your plan - my parents have had oversized baths fitted twice (the second was even more oversized than the first) and in both cases these were embedded into the wall as the bathroom is very small and the original metal bathtub from years gone by (which was smaller than current designs) only just fitted.

I'm surprised at how common this has turned out to be. It really must have been a standard practice, especially before the advent of baths of non-standard size.

Thanks Weyres....that was one of the reasons for going for a carronite bath. It is manufactured in such a way that it has increased strength from the coating as well as the thickness of the acrylic.

(I've sat on my butt all day on the pc just researching baths :o )

The one we got is the super deep one - 290 litres! (think standard is around 170). Only thing is I found out later that if you install a bath with a capacity over 230 litres you should get a water meter fitted if you don't already have one. OH isn't too pleased as he didn't want a meter.

Just started installing ours now. I asked a similar question a couple months back.

After hunting round various local plumbing merchants I came to one who knew the "real" size of their 1700mm baths - our old one was imperial 5'6" with little room spare. They had a good priced 5mm acrylic one at a sensible price at 1690mm. I also looked at a few online but delivery was too much in the end.
    Try typing :-
    bath 1790mm
into Google - quite a few firms have them listed.
