A witty fellow named Phil sent a "reply to all" so that everyone was aware of the whoopsie three accesories had made.

Plenty of people there though, lucky for them they didn't honour the misprice, they'd miss out on loadsamoney.

    Dear Customer
As a result of a clerical mistake earlier this afternoon, an order notification email was sent and subsequently recalled to all persons affected by the price error on www.threeaccessories.co.uk. This website is operated by Kondor Ltd on behalf of Three and therefore Kondor Ltd takes responsibility for this mistake.

No other details, other than your email address, have been shared with the distribution list.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused. In way of recompense we will offer you 15% off your next order on www.threeaccessories.co.uk or a free mains or car charger for your phone.

Please confirm if you wish to receive the 15% discount voucher code or a free mains charger or car charger by return email. If you wish to receive one of the free chargers, please confirm your phone make and model.
Once again we apologise for any inconvenience caused

Sounds like a "please please pretty please don't report us to the Information Commissioner's Office" type offer.

I'd take them up on their offer. Only under extreme and extraordinary circumstances do companies get forced to uphold their pricing errors. In fact the only one I can think of was Kodak a few years ago and that was only because people could legitimately think the pricing error was the genuine cost. In this case there's nothing you can do in terms of taking it further other than with the company itself as any small claims court would throw out the idea that you didn't know that the price of £0.00 was a mistake.

Even if you reported them, the ICO can only force them to comply in future, they don't give out compensation or anything like that.

We were actually in need of a charger right now, so I emailed back saying that if they removed all my data once it had been processed, I would accept.

Another case of a company using the "CC" field when they should have used the "BCC" field. If I can find my other message on this, I'll link to it.

It's a very easy thing to do, some email programs hide the "BCC" field by default and you have to hunt for the option to show it, but it only takes a moment to find it (or ask the IT team to switch it on by default for you).

Personally, I always enable the "BCC" field in my email programs - even though I don't use it all of the time, it's good to know that it's already showing for when I do need it.

The beauty of "BCC" is that each recipient will see only their email address and not everyone else's, which is what Kondor were aiming to do in the first place, I would imagine.

Edit: if you do a mail merge to email from Word, for example, I'm not sure if it just puts the first address into the "To" field and all the others into the "CC" field or if you get the option to use the "BCC" field instead for the 2nd and later addresses (I'm sure that Word 97 doesn't have this type of option - will have to check it out later - but perhaps Word 2000 upwards might).

And I wouldn't be surprised if Kondor did a mail merge from something like Word, or just drafted the email up and filled in the "To" and "CC" fields from their contact list data.
  • I emailed asking for the registered address at which to serve legal papers , due to them breaching the DPA with my info.

They havent replied to that , and im going to keep pushing. We have 3 of the same charger in my house, so no need for another. And as for 15% off....i wouldnt trust them with any of my credit card details!!!

I think the law requires them to provide this information if asked for.

Have you tried the Companies House website? They've got a search facility on there, which may help.
