balance transfer partners balance

hey everyone

Both my partner and I have the usual loans, credit cards etc. We are not married. We tried to get a new 0% interest b/t card for her, but they rejected the application. This was a surprise, as I thought our credit should be okay. We do both hold debt, but haven't made late payments, haven't done too many credit checks etc. She has been off work for some time due to health (15 months) so figured that might have some bearing. I might be more credit worthy, but I don't want to bother unless I can transfer her balance onto the new card. Can you do this? Do you need her to be a secondary cardholder? I can provide more figures if you think they will be relavent, but we are talking a couple of thousand here. Thanks for any advice.

There's no need to name anyone as a secondary cardholder. You can switch credit card balances from friends, family members or Dave down the pub. Please bear in mind though, the person whose card the balance is shifted to, becomes soley liable for the debt. If you were to fall out, you couldn't ask the card company to charge your partner for any remaining balance.

From the lender's perspective, it's not a problem. Customer services may ask you for the name on the account, but this is purely an additional verification check. At the end of the day, the card company is after your business. They're not really interested in knowing who ran up the debt, as long as you, their customer, pay up on time each month!
