Nuisance calls from an 0207 number!

Hi

For the last couple of weeks, I've been receiving calls on a daily basis on my Telewest landline from the numbers 0207 347 0077 and 0207 347 0078. When I answer the phone, there's no-one on the other end of the line and then they hang up. Sometimes the phone just rings once (missed call) then I dial 1471 and get one of the above numbers. Naturally I've tried calling both numbers back straight away, but I always get the "dead line" tone or an "Error in connection" message on my mobile.

Is anyone else having the same problem?? Could this coming from someone who's got an "outgoing calls only" type of line?

I personally think that, as the numbers are so similar, it could be someone using a calling card and this is the number that it appears the call is from. If so, is there any way of finding out which company it is and tracing the call?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The best thing to do is to report it to your existing supplier,s nuisance call dept. The numbers were originally allocated to Cable and Wireless,so its unlikely to be from a BT line.

It could be a Telemarketing Company using an Autodialler using o/g lines. It could also be that the person generating the calls cli is wrong, or they are deliberately generating a false Cli.

    See what Telewest advise.

Telewest should be able to block the 0207 number from dailing you. there maybe a charge for this service.

Thanks for the prompt replies. Will contact Telewest and see what they have to say.

I was hoping there might be another alternative as I assume Telewest will only tell me to file a police report so that they can trace the number if it happens again! And that route seems loooooooong, so didn't want to take that route, but seems like it's the only way!

As pointed out by pricefighter the CLI (Caller Line Identity) appears to be falsified. You could try ringing OfCOM on 020 7981 3040 and see if they are able to help but I wouldn't count on it though.

Have you registered for TPS (Telephone Preference Service)?.

I phoned Telewest and they said these types of calls are very common from telemarketing companies, as pricefighter mentioned above and the only way to stop them is to sign up to the TPS service, so that's what I'm gonna have to do. Thanks to bbb_uk for the link.

I went to the TPS website and signed up to the Silent Callgard Service instead of TPS. However, I received another call about 5 mins ago, this time from Alpha Telecom, whom I use to make international calls. I dialled 1471 and guess what?? It came up with the SAME number that I'd been getting silent calls from!!!!!!

Now, there doesn't seem to be a way of unregistering my number from the Silent Callgard Service! I tried registering for this service again and thought it might recognise my number and give me option of removing it, but no, I could only add it again!!

    020 7347 0077 & 020 7347 0078

Note the dialling code for London is 020 not 0207, 0208 or 0203.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

Ive been having the same thing happen to me, its only been over the past few weeks but i have only been living in the flat since September and only had the phone line fitted in October, and have never made an international call. The number calling me is 020 73470074.
Does anyone know why they are calling but noone is there when we answer it seems a little strange, they cant be making any money or anything from it can they:confused:
