tbh I can't think of anything shop-bought that I prefer to my own HM, I find ready meals particularly vile _pale_ even the finest/premium/fancy/M&S ones
I think it's the weird unnatural textures, overwhelming blandness & over-sweetness that get me

though I do confess I buy ready made puff pastry, I made it once many years ago & it's just not worth the hassle doing your own

might think of something as the day wears on, in which case I'll post again & grovel - a bit ;)

Cakes, generally! I'm not a good baker and I spend ages sweating and toiling in the kitchen ... and end up with something that doesn't taste as nice as a 99p Value Victoria Sponge!

I'm a bloke so everything shop purchased tastes better than I could ever make it !
  • I really can't think of anything that I could say I prefer the shop version of rather than home made. I admit that I'm a good cook and every time I have used a ready version I've been left disappointed so I won't buy them anymore. My ten year old is of the same opinion too.
I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

I think I make a mean mash, but we had M&S Ultimate Mash tonight (2 dine for £10) and it was truly the dogs'.

Did you check the nutritional information? The trick is probably about twice as much butter as one would normally add at home!

the kids at Ds's school are staying after school today as there is a concert this evening. My son said he would prefer me to do him pack up rather than join in with the Dominos's pizza run. He know's it's expensive and he loves my hm pizza.

Again I cannot think of anything that I would prefer shop-bought versus what I could make at home.

For me the pleasure of the occasional shop-bought meal or takeaway is the lack of hassle in cooking, the treat of having the food ready for me without all the fiddling in the kitchen (mind you I normally like cooking but it can get too much sometimes!).

There are foods that I like in their shop-bought form, such as filled pasta (ravioli etc.) but if I had the time and bother I know I could do a much better, tastier and healthier jobs of them, even HM pasta is delicious, but such a fiddle!

Pastry for me - shortcrust and flakey. I cant justify the time verses the small amount of extra money spent. Packet pastry is better than my homemade. Also Pizza express pizza. We love it but very expensive so I always wait until its on special offer-2 for 1 - this week in Sains then I by a few and freeze them. I do make my own pizza sometimes but it is not as nice although a fraction of the price.
