Credit card freebie question

I recently balnace transfered to the new abbey card and the promotion offer was £100 quid cashback for transefers over £1000. The person who set it up for me didn't transfer enough so I did the rest through internet banking (it was less than 1000 the second time). They then sent me 2 cheques for £100 seperatley and I thought great found a loophole!

They've now written to me saying it was an error and can I send cheque for £100 back to them... Does anyone know how this stands legally since it was their error? Thanks

Yes, you need to send them back a cheque for £ 100 from a legal point of view.

There are a few threads elsewhere about people receiving money into their accounts and whether they have to refund it.

Could be wrong, but I seem to remember the conclusions of these threads was that there was no way to legally keep hold of the money.

Suggestions other people have put forward are basically delaying tactics I think, like send them a cheque for £10 or sending them a cheque but accidentally forgetting to sign it. Depends how much hassle you want.

Other thing is that they could always just close your account and demand full payment of the £ 1000 you owe them if they decide you're breaching the terms of the agreement :)

    Hi Smiley

This is an amazing promotion but I can't find any info elsewhere about this. There must be a catch. Let's see what we could do:

    B/T 1001 with 2.5% charge gives £1026.03
cash back £100 reduces that to £926.03
    So they're paying £73.97 to give a 0 APR loan of £1001

    Where do I sign?
