Help with Wireless Connection

HI,

I have just had a new laptop, i loaded up vista and when that had settled down i fired up my wirless router for the first time connected the cat5 cable from the NTL box to the wirless router and bingo vista picked up the connect and i was on the net.

Now the following i have no connectivity to the internet whatsoever, i have tested the NTL box with another comp and its fine, it even works with my laptop through a straight cat 5 connection to the NTL box.

Vista shows the wireless box as a live connection so all seems fine there i have bottomed out the issue to be with the wireless router picking up the internet connection from the NTL box.

I have no idea how to fix this so please help

thanks in advance

have you switched off the wireless on your laptop by accident? that could be the case, there is either a keyboard shortcut to do, or a clip on the front which just needs switching.

Try hardwiring (ie. hooking up vista to the wireless router with a cable) and checking the routers settings by opening up a browser and typing in the IP address (usually 192.168.1.1).

That should bring up the routers settings etc including the security (which you should have enabled) and make sure it's obtaining an IP address automatically using DCHP.

Once you save the settings, unwire the vista machine and reconnect with the wireless connections window (the one that shows you a list of available networks it sees). Double click yours and it should ask you to enter the wireless security password (the one you set up in it's settings).

I think I had same hassle doing my Dads laptop, it's general hassle all round when it comes to Microsoft.....my Apple on the other hand was up and running in seconds. :D
