banks taking money from yoyr account

I hope i have posted this in the right section. I have had three bank accounts in the past that i am all due money too, RBS/HBOS and Smile. At the moment i am using my partners account for my student bursary and tax credits to be credited to. I have been advised to get an account of my own which i am doing at the moment. I am going to be going bankrupt in April when the new laws take effect in Scotland. First of all i tried the TSB they said no, then Nationwide which have excepted me. My worry is that because they are part of RBS would they be able to take funds from that account to credit the debt i have with the bank? thanks for any advice.

Most of the banks have in their T&Cs that they can pass money around between their subsidiaries to clear debts.

  • So do you think i would be safer to go with an account with the Alliance and Leicester then or does it not matter?

It looks like you already have adverse information on your credit files. You may find it difficult even for a basic account.
When you go bankrupt it will be blocked as soon as the verdict is published in Stubbs Gazette.
