Hi there, we're with EDF Engergy and pay £65 per month for Gas and £65.00per month for electric, is this a lot? Don't know how to compare it with others. We have one gas fire and gas central heating system all the rest, cooker etc is electric. I do cook every night so use cooker/hob quite a bit! Are dishwashers expensive to run? Use this twice a day. Thanks

  • I recently moved house in January. Since then i have used £60 worth of electric. Switched my gas to a different supplier on March 7th and today found out have used £64 since 7th March!!!! Wasn't surprised though as the boiler is older than my Grandad and heating is on A LOT!!

I pay £45 for gas and £32 for electric. Although I have a feeling this will go up and that I only got those prices to reel me in as I recently changed suppliers.

From my previous suppliers, I noticed my electric bill was always more than my gas.

I have gas central heating (don't tend to use as much as other people though), gas hob

leccie oven, and all the other bits and bobs people have.

Thanks for the replies, don't know much about these things but do you think the gas is due to the boiler' age, about 35 years old and we do have the heating on a lot its on downstairs most times even at night on low, seems steep to me considering the only other gas item is the fire which isn't on until about 6-7pm to 11pmish. I'm currently using £50 a month for both gas & electricity (£30 gas, £20 elec) in a 3 bed detached house. This is around 15,000kWh for gas and 2,600kWh for electricity. We have full gas central heating (stat set to 21C), electric oven & gas hob. Oven, fridge & freezer are all A+ efficiency rated. We do not have a dishwasher (unless you count me!) but do use a tumble drier when the weather is inclement. We are fully double-glazed and cavity-wall filled.

We replaced our 15yo gas boiler a couple of year's ago for a condensing type and this gave us an immediate 25% reduction in our gas consumption, so it's well worth considering - although the cost to replace will take another 15 years to pay back!

We pay £55 a month for both gas and electric with Scottish Power. That's for a 2 bedroom terraced house with electric cooker, gas central heating and tumble dryer. Oh and laptop/tv on all day.. ;)

It may be better to compare meter readings rather than monthly amounts. For the past 2 days i have used 10 units, apx 44Kwh. Gas is about 2.7p a Kwh so for a month thats £17.82, thats a 3 bed bungalow, heating only, boiler is apx 10years old.
    Electric, 10 Kwh a day, 10p a kwh so £30 a month.
