I agree that making your own is cheaper and better for baby and isn't a hassle if you make batches, freeze in cubes then put cubes in a freezer bag to take out as and when. My son spat out the jars, except the hipp organic puddings which were useful when we were away overnight or something.

Hipp and Organix have good, healthy ingredients. I noticed that most (but not all) of the others contained lots of bland fillers lacking in nutrients but are useful standbys if your baby will take them.

Good luck, whatever you decide. And be prepared for the mess!

My hubbie plays in a band and he did a gig a few weeks ago only to be told afterwards that he had a big yoghurty kiss on the back of his shoulder.

    Rock and roll! :rotfl:

I used a mixture of cook your own and jars for convenience. Trouble is little toerag sometimes decided he preferred the jars. So, I used to keep the jars, then decant 'my' food into the jars for the bad days.

    Call me devious ... ;)

Hi, I did a mixture of both home made and jars with mine- I think it is useful that they will eat from a jar (even better if they will eat it cold) as well as home made so that it is convenient if you are travelling. My local Sainsbury's have some really good offers on babyfood at the momemt - don't know if all have or not.

The main book about feeding babies and all the recipes from purees up to toddler years is The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner by Annabel Karmel. You can often find it second hand. It's a good book as a guide for a new mom on how to wean, recipes etc.

I agree, the Annabel Karmel book is v. useful!!! Lots of tips re: ideas for different stages, safe storage of food etc etc!! Lorraine Kelly (GMTV) has also done a book re: feeding babies & toddlers - that's also good!!

As already said - jars r great if you're out & about but, if you cook anyway, just put some of veg etc aside and freeze (obviously omitting salt.) As they get older, start to mix veg etc. My 2 loved butternut squash/sweet potato with e.g apple/pear!

    Good luck!!!!

Oh yes, I had forgotten that DS1 actually preferred his food cold! My MIL used to think I was so cruel not to heat it at all but if I did he wouldn't eat it until it had cooled down so it was a complete waste of time! He would even eat it straight from the fridge! Must be my family's habit of eating cold baked beans, which DH finds quite barbaric! Yum yum.
