Anybody knows London well!!
Son has got a job in Islington. He intends to commute either from Bucks (home)to Maryleybone and from there get to Islington. I reckon the journey will be 90 mins. The other option is to commute from Greenford (staying with a relative short term) journey approx 60 mins until he finds a suitable room to rent in London. Pl can anybody offer some advice which route will be best. Thanks

Well 60 minutes has to be better than 90 minutes, and that route will be cheaper, being entirely within the London zones with no rail journey on top0

Not sure exactly where abouts in Bucks & Islington you will be travelling? I used to do Aylesbury - Angel quite frequently and that was about 90 - 100mins. Either took the 205 bus from outside Marylebone or walked to Baker Street (literally 5 mins) & took the Met/Circle/Ham & City line to Kings Cross & changed there for Angel.
Greenford would be to Paddington then either 205 or Ham & City or Circle to Kings Cross & changing again.
As a previous poster mentioned Greenford would be a lot cheaper as you can get just a normal travel card, though you could just buy a "london terminals" ticket from Bucks & then use prepay on the 205, 90p a journey.
If you bought a Bucks - All zone travel card that would then be valid from Greenford as well, so could perhaps stay there some nights during the week.0 -

Thanks Coral, it does involve quite a bit of changing at least 3 times. I thought leaving at Greenford would involve only 1 change. Have been looking at season tickets London travel card which will cost £87 from Aylesbury. Daughter told me that is too cheap I must have got it wrong since her friend pays at least £24 a day travelling peak time once a week.
I hope he knows what he is letting himself into, he has to get up very early. Do not know what's wrong with working in Aylesbury, it is not a bad place? The job is at Islington Council situated in Upper street. What about stopping at Islington & Highbury will that be better for him?
He will save loads living at Greenford, but living with relatives is not like living with your parents. He does intend to look for a room in London when he is settled. Thanks for your help.0 -
Highbury & Islington is walking distance to Upper Street - 10 minutes depending on his destination, I would've thought.0

If he lives at Greenford, he can take a Central Line tube to Oxford Circus and change once to get the Victoria line to Highbury & islington. It's a long journey but vastly more simple than from home
I would suggest he stays the night at the relatives and does a dummy run in rush hour before he starts work. He will learn what it's like taking the tube in rush hours ! He can also then enquire about cheapest tube price to do that journey regularly.0
