Disposing of a monitor

I need to get rid of a monitor. I can't be doing with Freecycle, after using it to off load PC equipment in the past, I swore never again. Opening my emails was like that scene out of Bruce Almighty.

Obviously I've google searched my area, but all I can find is weee agencies who expect me to pay for them to take it away, and I'm not doing that. I'd rather donate it somewhere...

Any suggestions?

My local refuse tip has a computer monitor recycle centre. Does yours?

  • Have you tried Gumtree? They have a giveaway/for free section. I got rid of an old broken washing machine this way last year.

Thanks for suggestions. I just called the council who referred me to a local PC recycling centre, who referred me back to the council!

Apparently my local refuse tip does have a facility, so I'll be going along there :)

I checked with John Lewis where I got my new monitor and they charge £9 to take weee away!!!
  • why not ask your local technical college if they want it for the kids to use for spare parts.. they do courses on pc repairs and might be glad of free parts

    hope this helps :)

There is no serviceable parts inside a computer monitor. Nothing that you would fix on a college IT techies course anyway. :)
  • technicaly your correct leeuk

but i was glad of a donated monitor while i was learning to build pc's at college :P
no point building the thing if you cant plug a monitor in for testing
  • You'd have to know a fair bit about electronics to salvage anything from a monitor. As far as disposing of it goes you can either use an agency like many people have already mentioned or where possible take it to your local recycling centre or unfortunately, the local dump/tip.
