Bank transfer of credit card account without my consent

hi, i went on my internet banking site last night only to find that my current trustcard visa account balence was reduced to nil and a new credit card account had been opened with the balence of my trustcard having been transferred.
i was annoyed to say the least as i have not had anything in writing from the tsb to give me the choice and i certainly have not had anything come to say they had decided for me and provide the new terms for this new card.
i have telephoned the tsb today and i have been told that as i hadn't responded regarding the choice of card that i wanted they chose for me.
i asked how they can do this without sending me the new terms of this new account. i was told that the terms and condition are the same as my trustcard visa but with some extra benifits. i personally thought that was a change to the terms of a credit card account and the bank could not do this.
i should have at least been sent another letter once they had decided what card they wanted to force upon me.
Q. can the bank change this type of thing without sending out a letter confirming the the terms and conditions of the new card they chose for you, to at least give you the the option of chosing something else? even send out a letter stating that the terms and conditions will not change but extra benefits are provided with new account and do you still want us to go ahead.
the card they have given me awards airmiles(points for discount days out too). i have no passport, i have never flown(sad i know) and cannot access many popular places as my son is in a wheelchair and very often the facilities are poor and yet this is the card they say bests suits my lifestyle?

Your Visa credit card has been replaced by either the Mastercard or Airmiles duo.
I certainly have been advised more than once that this was going to happen - in fact they have been migrating customers over since last year.
Your last paragraph or rant is not LTSB's fault is it?
They can't make say Alton Towers or Legoland any more wheelchair friendly than it is at present but I'm sure that if you were to inform these establishments of your circumstances they would respond positively.0 -
hi, thanks for responding. i to knew aboout the changeover as my hubby had had his card changed to a trustcard mastercard last year and i had a letter in december 07 to let me know that some changes would be occuring and have been waiting for a letter since. i also assumed that as i have a trustcard mastercard that i would just be left with that. this only expired jan 08 and cosequently i have not been sent a new one either.
my beef is that when they didn't hear from me(all be it because i haven't had their letter) that they didn't then send out the new info regarding the choice they were making for me and whether i still wanted them to do this. i thought that they were legally obliged to inform their customers of the terms and conditions of credit cards if changes occured.
yes the last part of my previous post is not TSB's fault but it surly indicates that their choice for me regarding my spending and lifestyle is incorrect and they have made an invalid choice for me without corrsespondence.0 -
catherine sorry but I disagree.
You are in a better position today with the Airmiles card - 1 the interest rate is 1% lower than the old card 2- did you get anything with the old TSB trustcard - I know of nobody who got anything meaningful with the old points system.
No credit card system is perfect - I don't think any bank could possibly know whether your lifestyle and spending is incompatible with a particular card or not. You are given the card with a limit as you are considered a good risk up to that limit - what you do with that facility is up to you.
Personally I would ask your husband to mention next time he is in your local branch about whether he too could trade his card for a Duo card.0 -
I dont know the rights and wrongs here but why waste all that enegry on getting angry
either
live with it .. it doesn't actually seem you're worse off
or ask them to change to a different card that better suits your livestyle
or choose from the 100's or other CC that better suit you.0 -
The same thing has just happened to my wife, but the thing is that’s she can not pay off the credit card bill as its showing up as nil but we spent £700 and want to pay it of as soon as possible so as not to pay any charges, we did ring TSB many times but they don't even know where the money is. It shows up online that the money has gone out but the available balance is nil, should we just wait and see if they transfer it to new card (that we haven't got or asked for)
Can anyone help please?0 -
They've just made a small change to your T&Cs - if you don't like it you have the right to close your account. They are within their rights to provide you with a new card number, and it's their choice what picture they stick on the front!0

Yes, wait for the statement to arrive, or make a payment via online banking, assuming you have a card number for it. They won't stop you from making a payment.
Then, as you don't want your new card, stop using it and get a credit card from another lender.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
