Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is £72.55 weekly.

Payable if your average earnings are over £87 weekly, you should get this for up to 28 weeks, the employer can pay you more but no less.

WTC continues while sick for the same 28 weeks, CTC will continue past this date.

If you dont earn enough to get SSP you should try for Incapacity benefit instead, your employer should give you a form called an SSP1 for this.

If your weekly earnings and income drops you may now be entitled to help with the rent and council tax if apid.

  • If you are off sick (for up to 28 weeks) you dont need to inform Tax Credits Office. Not sure about the carers allowance but as you as still classed as employed by TCO (for the maximum 28 weeks) I would assume this would be the same for carers allowance but I will be corrected, no doubt, if I am wrong.
  • This link takes you to the DWP page about changes of circumstance for carers allowance

The information isnt detailed enough but you can give them a call on 01253 856 123 and just ask for some general advice.
