Hi all ,i ave just finished my interview with the OR and i was a little annoyed.
I had a small personalised printed gift site and made mugs t-shirts etc which didn't make a lot of money but it was a job. i decided to go bankrupt because my personal debts had dragged on for years and i would have been 70 by the time i had finished paying for them and they were dragging me down.
Due to a client going bankrupt before Christmas and owing me money my business was not looking good but i made a fair bit from my website to compensate plus if i had the lost revenue from over the Christmas period I would have come out OK.
So where am i going the OR said my business was not viable which under the circumstances (which i accept)and they will take all the equipment, but i asked if i could keep my computer and he said NO! i asked if i could keep the hard drive and he said NO! i did point out that this contains my clients information art work etc  and this is protected under the Data protection act and he still say NO ! just wipe it or copy it!
Should I be allowed to keep my computer as these are the tools of my trade as a graphic artist, disregarding the business as it was?
As i work in a digital format a computer and printer are important?
not having these will remove me from the market?
Also i took all the information they required and more in the end i asked if i could get this years trading invoices back and he said no!
i asked how I was to complete my accounts?
He said i should have photocopied them
i said i was not aware of that
He said we can copy them for you at 32p a sheet (all 300) or i can come in and fill in my tax return as i said i don't know how to do that, thats why i had an accountant?
He said well you cant afford an accountant
I may be bankrupt now but this is not a life choice
Anyone any ideas on this situation with books and equipment?
cheers

Personally I would go with Phils suggestion and appeal.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
wow what an a@se he was, loving Nimbos reply!
i thought if you needed the pc for work/college etc you are allowed to keep them? if someone with more knowledge has said appeal then i would certainly be going down that route

Crikey. I'm allowed to keep my laptop - its been exempt on the basis I am a part-time student.
I really think you should appeal - fast! As another poster has mentioned, get an old one off a mate if you lose. (Anywhere near East Berks? I have an old one if you get desperate for a bargain price of a Krispy Kreme donught!)0 -
you know what its like, there is only you on your side and they have the might of the law.
Sometime you think you dont want to rock the boat because it might go against you , but whats the point of doing all this if you are going to let people walk all over you! thats the reason im in this situation and im still allowing people to treat me like you know what!0 -
They have the might of the law when things go wrong or lack of co-operation from you. There are also guidelines that are there to protect you/creditors and them.0

sounds like he does all that for himself (diy sex....)
copy your information to a cd rom then delete it all
drop the pc as you hand it to them, or leave it password protected and give em the wrong password, also, leave some !!!!!! on it but alter the clock to august 2008 first....
personally id say ive got no accounts and no computer, they were stolen in a break in.0 -
and they wonder why people tell em lies........0

tell him you wont need to do a tax return cos your bankrupt, HMRC can whistle.....and thank him0

That was harsh! AFAIK the Or's word is the gospel so I don't hink you have any grounds to appeal??
maybe someone else may know. Sounds like he needs a few harsh lessons in humanity!!! Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. ~Confucius0
