On my mobile phone (Vodafone) I can send a text message to a fax machine by prefacing the phone number with 9741, but I don't know whether that is an industry-standard number or specific to Vodafone.

Only way i know is to use one of the online email to fax providers. I found efax.co.uk good but there's plenty of others if you google.0

You can print your email to a fax device and send that. There are also fax servers out there for larger businesses. As richt71 said that the external mail to fax providers are one of the easiest ways to go and I've heard works quite well.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

YES! And it's free!!!!
You want http://www.tpc.int/
Demon are the local UK agents, and coverage across the world is not too bad either. Also check your work's email services too, the NHS's email has an inbuilt email to SMS and FAX service too.
Here's an example of how to use TPC...
The Address Format:remote-printer.recipient_name@fax_number.iddd.tpc.intrecipient_name fax_numberAn example:- Use the name of the recipient you wish to have on the coversheet.
- The character '_' is converted to a space
- The character '/' is converted to start a new line
- Do not use long distance and international access codes
- Begin with country code (1=USA, 44=UK, etc)
- Strip out punctuation characters
- Maximum number of digits is 15
remote-printer.Martin_Lewis/Room_403/It_Pays_To_Watch@441234567890.iddd.tpc.intThis will send a fax to the number 01234 567890 (the first '44' at in the fax number is the country code for the UK)
The coversheet will look like this:Please deliver to:
Martin Lewis
Room 403

The link in the last message (http://www.tpc.int/) just goes through to a log in point for something called Netsweeper .....0

You must have the site blocked on your local PC for some reason? As it's a perfectly valid link.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0

Most computers will have an inbuilt modem and Windows has fax software, all you need then is the cable from your computer to the phone line.0

But why pay for phone calls when you can do it free, without fiddling with extra cables (especially as a lot of people now use broadband and wireless laptops) and extra software? And a good coverage of the world too?A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
When I last tried tcp.int it used to preface any fax with an advertising page from the local internet supplier eg Demon. In these more green-thinking days this is an annoying waste (an advert on the same page as part of the header/footer would make a lot more sense). I tried to test tcp.int a few days ago to see if this was still so but the 2 012*** UK fax numbers I tried seemed to be blocked from use by tcp - just got a failure email. If anyone is using tcp.int nowadays, how good is it?0
