credit expert - is this correct?

Options
mr mob has joined a site called credit expert and on it he is able to view all of my debts.

we believe this is because virgin media changed the billing from me to him last year.

i personally think its wrong that he is able to see all of my debts. not that i have anything to hide, he knows what i owe anyway but i find in principle that this is wrong.

would this be against the FOI act or something similar?

  • So you don't have any other financial link to your husband? Joint bank account or mortgage? Ever applied for a loan together? It seems unlikely that Virgin Media would be the cause as i'm not even sure a credit check would be involved for that service.

It's quite correct that if you're financially linked your credit information would show alongside his. Also, irrespective of whether you're financially linked lenders have the facility to view credit information for all people of the same family name at an address, it's not against the FOI or the Data Protection Act, which I think would be more relevant in this case.

Any chance his record and yours could be associated by Experian because you live together and somehow he can see yours because of that? Not sure it should be happening like that. but...

I actually took out the Credit Expert trial through Quidco for the £6 cashback, but I cancelled it because I'd get an email from them every day saying there'd been a search, but when I logged in to check, the only thing I could see was the Credit Expert daily check!

it's data protection act and no they shouldn't be showing him your accounts - do they show his as well?
  • Im financially linked to OH but cannot see his info. They said they are not allowed to due to Data Protection.

Just to add a warning for anyone looking to get their score. I was rated between 987 and 999 out of 1000 by them but I got turned down twice for credit when looking for a better deal. The reason because they cant take his info into account when scoring me but companies can?!

get onto them and ask for an explaination. Get screen prints of everything (incase they mysteriously change - press ctrl and printscreen and paste into paint) and send these to them, copy everything you send to them to the information commissioner as well.

The scores mean zip anyway. Each financial institution uses their own method of scoring, and these are kept secret to stop manipulation...

You can request that as you are not linked they do not show your info but you need to write to experian and equifax
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
  • When I was getting my mortgage I had to get a report from Experian as there was something showing up on my credit rating. I hadn't lived with my mum and dad for 6 years by then and had never had any credit cards etc at their address when I was living there but all their accounts were on my report. Mum was livid and wouldn't let me hand the report to the bank as it was her details and she didn't see what it had to do with her. Because of this I couldn't show the bank what was wrong with my account which turned out to be a catalogue i'd forgotten about so couldn't get a mortgage in time. Now my house is owned by OH as he took out the mortgage himself and I could slap me ma now lol.
