Am I medically exempt from life insurance?

Hi,
I was hoping that someone would be able to clear up weather or not im able to buy life insurance.
The situation is that last year, I found out by accident that my dad has huntingtons disease (had previously been let to believe it was actually parkinsons). I decided to go and get tested and have been told that I also carry the gene, which is dormant at the moment (im only 22) but will start to affect me in my early forties.
I have a mortgage (and 2 kids) but currently do not have any life insurance. Am I able to apply without disclosing that I have been tested positive? Im not really sure what I should do so any advice is welcome.

If asked you will have to declare it.
If not asked and not asked if there are any material facts you can keep quiet. Best to go to an insurance broker as they will know if there are insurers that won't ask for disclosure.
Thoughts with you at a difficult time; I hope medical research finds a cure in the next few years. I don't know enough about specific diseases but tests aren't infallible and the number of false positives for some screening programmes is worryingly high.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thank You silvercar, you're kind words are a comfort. I console myself with the fact ive got about 20 years before i show any symtoms of the disease and can only hope a cure is found. I will look into an insurance broker however I think that most companies ask for your families medical history and obviously if they asked me about that, i'd have to tell them about my dad. Fingers crossed though...0

It is a question that is asked on all life assurance questions under the "have your parents, brothers and sisters....."
However, it may not be an issue for you depending on the length of time you are wanting to insure.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
