I have no issues selling low priced items to newbies and in fact i make a point of welcoming them when in email contact.

HOWEVER, i do sell the odd pc and laptop and there is nothing worse than getting someone who has just ebay that day, bidding over the odds at the last minute for some item at maybe £500+. Its just a lottery as to whether or not you ever get the money.

Mobile phones, consoles, pc's and laptops seem to be desperately prone to nigerian scammers and non payers just taking the mick.

I do try and ensure i have made contact with them before auction close and check out their details etc, but that doesn't stop the last minute bidders....

No easy way round it, i'd just like to be able to, on certain high priced or high risk auctions to stop people with 0 feedback bidding unless they have contacted me in advance with their details.

I agree with what Hintza says, the more restrictions a seller places on their auctions the more buyers will go elsewhere.

As for buying low and selling high, on Monday I bought an book from a newish seller that I just found in the general listings when I was browsing. She had no photo and the only auction description was the book title and author.

I bought the book for £1.50 including post and packing, the postage alone shown on the envelope was 92p and the envelope was a brand new padded one. I paid by paypal and the book is virtually mint. When I paid I sort of mentioned in the email that she was losing money after taking into account her listing fees and paypal fees, but I noticed she put a whole load of other books up again last night for the same price.

excatly my predicament. I,m a new ebayer and wouldnt like it if ppl started blocking me beacuse of my low feedback but at the same time as a seller i,m started to find selling high value items tricky, i guess made worse by my low feed back giving scammers the opportunity to target novice users like me.

The opportunity to select a wider choice of options for blocking should be avalable so we could make our own minds up how secure we would like our listings to be.
  • I've never had a problem with newbies buying on my auctions its just that i want to be able to sell a mobile phone without it being bought by a scammer. This restriction of blocking buyers with under 5 feedback will only apply to this auction. If they do have low feedback then i will check to see whether or not it could have been "bought" and then cancel the bid.

I think we have concluded that your original posting in this thread does NOT actually allow you to stop people with under 5 of a feedback bidding. It only stops them if they are bidding on multiple items of yours...

Pity though - i'd love that facility to be able to apply to 0 feedback people for the reasons i've stated earlier.

    oh well.
