Hmv

Options
i went to HMV today to buy a dvd but they were out of stock and i was told to order it online

so i trotted off home and went to place my order on the website

the gavin and stacey dvd says £6.99

yet on the checkout it says £8.99

i called their customer services team, the girl knew about the situation and even told me what dvd it was before i stated which one it was!
she said there was a promo batch at £6.99 but they've all gone now, its its £8.99
so in otherwords..some idiot has priced it wrong, so now they're covering it up
but they still havent changed the price on the page!

ive emailed customer services saying i will complain to trading standards but have had no reply as yet!

anyone know where i stand on this?

if it was a price tag in a store they couldnt sell me it at a higher rate could they?

argh! annoying HMV!

they can, advertise at any price (there may be repercussions with trading standards/consumer protection act) online or in store and refuse to sell it to you at that price, only a higher price...they can charge whatever they want,
the law sees the advertisement of a price to be an 'invitation to treat', this means the consumer is offering to buy the product at that price from the seller, the seller can always refuse this offer, if they take the money they have accepted this offer to sell this product at this price
so they cannot, sell it at that price as in actually take the money, and then demand more money for the product.

does anybody know anything about £1 being held onto as a card check after an order with hmv.I had £4 (not withdrawn from my account)unaccounted for and after checking with my bank was told it was hmv assosiated. When i contacted hmv they were great ,they explained that the card i used had held onto it and would not withdraw it ,but release it back into my account after a while.
So does this happen a lot and i just hav`nt noticed it before.thank you for any info

Do you mean 4 seperate £1 transactions? If so then a lot of internet orders dial through a small amount normally 1p or £1 to verify the card, normally in the instance where (and I believe HMV is one of these) the company does not debit the transaction until despatch. This happens a lot and the reason they dont withdraw it but it 'hangs on' is because any card transaction is earmarked on your account before the transaction is processed, the company forwards their card terminal transactions to their bank for funds but the £1 would not count as an official transaction so is not actually paid on, after a certain number of days the marker drops off of your account as it is unclaimed. HMV never had this money it would of been held on your bank account.

    Hope this makes sense. :p

I wouldn't even buy from HMV - everytime I have made an internet order it has taken weeks to be delivered because they don't tell you if its out of stock or on special order etc

Is it not cheaper at www.dvd.co.uk?

Thank you, it makes sense (will press thank you button when it’s working for me)
It is £1 transactions (not debited, but in limbo) they were all after orders of less than £5 and have been missing for a week now, is that normal?
Thank you again for your help.
