I had this problem, it was a metalised windscreen, very expensive one that absorbs sunlight (and GPS signals) The only answer was an external antenna so I went back to using an atlas and arguing with the wife. Maplins gave a full refund. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

i went onto configure GPS but then didnt know what to do or how to configure it!
cuold you please assist me in this?

Just remembered, check the signal by holding GPS outside the car. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

earlier today i was standing on the side of the road with it in my hand for about 3 minutes and it couldnt find a signal still!?

If it's not been on for a while, it may well take longer than 3 minutes to find satellites. They create a kind of "map" in memory that will then allow them to lock much quicker subsequently.0

As fwor said you need to give it longer. Remember the satellites aren't stationary they're constantly moving out of line and so the GPS receiver has to not only keep track of the satellites it's found but detect more when those have gone out of range. If it starts off with none then it can take a while to detect the first one."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Two things...
1) Make sure you've got Tomtom Home installed on the PC then update the Tomtom with the new GPS Fix data.
2) Make sure the time is set correctly on the Tomtom.
Both of the above will make sure it gets a fix quicker. When I'd not used mine for ages, it took several minutes to get a fix.
You can check whether it's receiving signals by looking at the GPS status. You'll see several bars which move up and down and these will turn blue as they're "locked".0
