I hope you mean 2" and not 2cm?

Pesonally I wouldn't buy a Silentnight if it was £10

Just get sheets that are designed for deeper mattresses
Hi Tim. Actually I was correct with the measurements. 2 or 2.3 cm. I'm guessing you think that's too thin?

Thanks for the tip re Silentnight. It seems your opinion on this Forum is pretty well respected, so I shall take note of that. Why are Silentnight so bad?

Also, who would you recommend? Are there any on-line suppliers you know are good and price-competitive?

Thanks too for the tip about sheets.

The memory foam needs to be between 2" and 2.5". Less than that and it won't be enough to contour to your body, but more than that and it would start to engulf you and make you too hot.

I can't really say much about different brands on here for legal reasons.

    Have a look on ebay.

    Hi all

I wasn't sure where to post this - so its here.

Has anyone bought or used a 'memory foam' bed???

My doctor has suggested I get one (for a back problem I have), and before I start looking, I thought I'd try to get some feedback.

    Anyone?

    cheers

They make you hot apparently! Not great in warm weather.
    .....

  • I have a sprung mattress with built in memory foam topper, and although it is very comfortable it is incredibly hot! Really a bit too warm in the summer.

Like too hot, or just warm???

Warm in the winter, but definitely too hot in the summer.
  • I spent a number of years recently as a bed sales manager and have a little advice based on customer feedback

generally the support you get from a memory foam bed is unparalled with any bed other than a water bed, some of the beds however more so the older ones or cheaper ones do not breath very well and trap body heat, all of them do make you warmer as it is your body heat that warms the foam and sculpts it to your body shape.

If you have one it is generally cooler if you have a pocket sprung mattress with the memory foam incorporated on the top as the pocket springs act like bellows as you move and circulate the air.

however be warned that although the foam mattress is the ideal sleeping surface for many people with disabilities or movement problems etc they can be difficult to get out of in the morning because the foam gives and moulds under pressure meaning that it often does not give enough resistance to enable you to push down and get yourself out of bed therfore making it difficult for the very people it could benefit most.

Never be conned into using a memory foam topper on an old mattress that is past it's best as the topper will mould to the shape of the mattress and therefore not give you very good support

I bought a Silent night memory foam bed 4 months ago for my back and I wish I'd done it years ago. The only advice I would give is to test quite a few as they are all different firmness. I went for a medium even though I've always used a firm mattress. I also played off 3 shops against each other and ended up getting a 4 drawer for the price of a 2 drawer and interest free over 2 years! I was advised that the new one do not make you so hot and I can agree with that.

Yes, and it's the best mattress we've ever had!

Haven't noticed it being any hotter than our old spring mattress was...
