I would like some advise please....
I have a bedbase that is perfectly fine - but I have a bad back and would like to replace the mattress. I have been looking around, and have seen some memory foam mattress's and find them appealing!:D One of the bed shops told me these are just thick foam with a generous layer of memory foam on top, is that true???
I would like to gather advise on whether people out there recommend the memory foam mattress's and or what you think of the toppers? I have seen toppers in various thickness from 3cm to 7 - 8 cm I have it in my head a 3cm one would be useless??
All thoughts on the above much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
just thought I tell you about my memory foam mattress. I purchased one about 2 years ago for £280, and have never looked back.
It is the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. And even though I have had it 2 years it has never lost shape. I also bought memory foam pillows, but it took me a while to get used to these as they are much lower than ordinary pillows but now I wouldn't change.
I can't comment on the toppers as I have never tried one, but I presume they will only be as good as the mattress you are using underneath.
Hope this helps0 -
i bought my son a matress topper-bout 3 inches deep for £60 in january. his matress was nearly new but he just didnt like it at all. the topper has turned this bed into the comfiest ever-the foam is so deep you dont feel the matress under it at all just mould into the topper itself-hes on a trip to spain so i slept on it last nite-heaven is all i can say-highly recommended indeed xeven god cant change the past-no matter how many times i cryfor levi, leo, smudge and arfa:A my angels0

we bought an expensive memory foam mattress 3.5 years ago. Excellent.
I wouldn't go back to an ordinary one now.

I have a pocket sprung memory foam mattress and it's great. I don't think there is any point in getting one which is completely made out of foam. Mattress toppers are also good, as long as your mattress beneath is decent enough.0

Got one from Argos last year, it is 1/2 springs topped with memory foam (think its called coniston). You've got the best of both worls. Also, the memory foam is very warm, so having the springs on the bottom does allow some air circulation. It is really comfy.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Bought a memory foam and reflex foam mattress from ebay. Is giving me a bad back (sold as highland 10'' memory foam) Memory foam is not for everyone. Evaluate it in shops before u buy as they are expensive and if you dont like it its a waste of money0

we have a memory foam divan bed, and it was the best £700 we ever spent!!
ours is totally memory foam - no springs or anything
it is sooooooooooooo comfortable - I too suffer with a bad back and so this was a must!
i don't have any experience with the toppers so dont know how effective they may be - however, i can totally recommend the mattress

We have a memory foam mattress and I wish we'd bought one years ago! It's spoilt me for other mattresses now which is a bit of a bind since we do travel about a lot staying at friends and in hotels. If only I had room in the car to take it with me!!!
Toppers are great too...I slept on one at a mates house a few years ago, and if we didn't already have the memory foam mattress, I would have bought one of them.
Give one a try and see what you think. I wouldn't mind betting that you will wish you'd bought one years ago!

Got the MiL a memory foam topper from a supplier on the web and she is very pleased with it. It was significantly cheaper than any we saw in the shops. Also a lot cheaper than buying a new mattress.Trying hard to be a good moneysaver.0

As I mentioned in another thread that you posted in Viddy, I think your problem is more to do with the mattress you bought being a poor quality one.0
