When you say "turn it on" do you mean the on/off switch on the boiler, or, via the programmer?0

The programmer. The boiler would run for a while then trip, progressively getting worse, until now when it trips as soon as the programmer is switched on.0

It's unlikely that the boiler is causing the problem. It is usually one of the auxiliary components. High on the list is the pump, followed by the 3-port valve or one of the 2-ports, depending on your configuration.
An easy way to check this is to switch the boiler off and then start the system. If it still trips then eliminate the boiler.
Leaving the boiler switched off and if you are happy to do so, disconnect the pump and make safe. Restart the system and see what happens.
P.S. I meant electrically disconnect the pump - not physically!0 -
Could well be the pump, cheers.0
