I am faced with quite a problem. I could not find a board that would apply to all these so I though I would put it here.
I have a contract out with BT for phone line rental, O2 Broadband and Sky for my digital TV in my current house.
When i took the house i was told that it would be a 6 month rolling contract meaning that I would be able to renew every 6 months, so therefore I thought it would be fine to take these things out as I would be there for over 12 months.
A week ago I was handed a letter from my landlord giving me notice leave the house and terminate my contract. Meaning, I have to move out.
I have found a new place, but the problem is, this has BT line, Internet and Sky already ( I stay in shared houses ) and my existing landlord refuses to take on the TV, Internet and Phone from me on my exsisting house.
This has left me with a bit of a problem, because after reading my contracts with these suppliers, there are fairly hefty cancellation fees to pay for canceling early, and I dont want to pay for something I am not using.
Also, this would mean that any tenents moving in to my exsisting house after me, would not be able to have a phone line/internet/sky because I will put a block on it ( as i am not living there and not using ).
So...there will be problems either way without cancelling it.
I am just wondering if there is a law or any clause that will protect me and be able to cancel these services without forking out hundreds of pounds?

I was fearing that, I have spoken to Sky on the phone, they have given me an email address to get in contact with them and explain my situation.
O2 and BT were less helpful. Its a bit of a nightmare really.0 -
What I would do, if I were in your situation, would be to write to each of the suppliers by recorded delivery, explaining your situation, and enclosing a copy of the tenancy termination letter given to you by your landlord. It sounds like you are able to prove that you are being forced to move, and that at the time you took out the contracts with these suppliers, you reasonably expected to be able to stay at your current address.0

it was a six month tenancy agreement... in order of who would/should be responsible for the financial loss i would go with
1. the tenant
2. the landlord
3. the utility companies
the tenant may have got a deal with bt and o2 on condition of a contract lasting X months eg
half price installation , call plans, free routers etc0
