View via the DVD recorder?

I have a panasonic viera TV and dvd recorder both with freeview.
I view freeview via the tv.
When I change back to the tv from using the recorder, I'm sure that in those split seconds, I'm able to view the tv via the recorder and the picture is even better.
So as an experiment, is there a button I can clic, to switch viewing from the freeview on the tv to the recorder. I don't want to muck anything up as I'm not too technically minded.

How is the DVD connected to the tv? If it's via scart then can you not just select the relevant AV input on the tv?"...IT'S FRUITY!"0
