Please can other MSE'S give me the thumbs up on what I have done and/or add any further advice.
After messy divorce and ex-husband's bankruptcy I have been without landline for a while. Have opted for BT'S Option 1 and then registered with one-tel Standard UK Talk for free week-end calls and 18866 for other times.
Am I right that I use my mobile for calls to mobile numbers or is there a cheaper option?
Many thanks and apologies if I am being a bit slow.

The first 2 are good moves (although, I believe, one of the CPS providers has a free weekends and evenings offer available at the moment, using 18866 will mean only 2p per call weekday evenings, just like weekdays).
With regard to calls to mobiles, it depends what contract you're on.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I have Orange Talk Time 200.
Another question which I guess should be on the mobile phone board is that my BT line is not due to be connected for another week and I would like some advice on the most cost effective way to contact my daughter who is in France for a holiday from this mobile (orange have quoted 20p a minute!) - I have the choice of calling either h a French landline or a UK mobile (also on orange).
Many thanks0 -
Yes, your mobile is best used for calls to other mobiles (I see cross-network calls are included in that 200 minutes allowance).
On 18866, calls to mobiles would cost 2p connectoon and 12p/minute during the week and 3p/minute at the weekend (both of which are probably cheaper than using your mobile beyond the 200 minutes allowance).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. has Orange numbers you can use as call-through numbers for French landlines; no account needed
2nd choice - your daughter gets a French SIM card (phone needs to be unlocked), you ask Orange about their Try promotion for Int'l calls which gives you £5 free credit, and after that you're on that 20p/minute0 -
https://www.tele2.co.uk are the provider who are doing free evening and weekend calls to the end of the year.If you make lots of evening landline calls it might be worth your while switching to them from One Tel.PF.0
