Hi, I purchased one of the Hannspree 37 in TVs and am pleased with it but picture is not brilliant. I have SKY + and a DVD player and it is connected with 2 Scart leads.
I have read through a lot of the threads and some people say get gold plated scart leads and some say HDMI cables, this may be stupid but I dont really understand whats what. Should I buy some gold plated Scart leads to improve picture or do you replace Scart altogether whith HDMI cables.
Thanks everyone

If your DVD Player has an HDMI socket then an HDMI cable will give you a better picture, a standard Sky + box doesn't have an HDMI socket so a screened quality scart cable will stop any interferance.
Always use HDMI -> HDMI if you can.0 -
Good quality scart can make a difference but it can only transmit standard definition. If you want high definition then you need HDMI cables. I don't know whether your sky+ will have a HDMI socket but how new is your DVD player? Only the very recent ones with HD upscaling have HDMI sockets in which case you'll have to use a scart with that."She is quite the oddball. unless your sky box is a sky hd box you wont be able to use a hdmi cable with it. as far as the dvd player goes, well if it does hd upscaling and your tv has a hdmi slot then you can use a hdmi cable for that. if your picture is particularly poor then it wont have anything to do with the cables you currently use unless they have a fault.0

It depends who you speak to as believe it or not some prefer scart but HDMI is made for high definition output.
I have a V+ box and instantly noticed the difference when i plugged in the HDMI cable and turned on the hidef setttings.
So my advice is HDMI all the way

i dont notice any difference with our dvd player that does hd upscaling. hdmi cables dont do automatic adjust depending on whether the picture is 4:3 or 16:9 so we have to adjust it manually. it doesnt really matter with the dvd player but if we had sky hd i am sure we would get annoyed with it.0

Have you set both your Sky Box and DVD player to RGB out and enabled them both on your TV. Try this first."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

thanks everyone, so looks like HDMI not an option as DVD is quite old. will try the RGB out thing if I can see how to do it, picture is not bad just doesnt seem very sharp and if a person moves quickly they leave themselves behind!0

Felt like that myself today (migraine)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You might want to look at the manual re picture settings for the TV. Never seen Hannspree, but I would suggest ANY new TV ought to give you a decent picture.
You might want to try a process of elimination. How is the picture quality on digital TV? Is the picture OK when playing a DVD? Connect Sky box direct to TV, is the picture OK?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I bought a Sony BRavia 40" which was supposed to be the dogs doodars, but when I connected it up to the Sky+ and my non hdmi DVD recorder, it was no better then my Napolionic 22" crt?
I too posted for advice and had the same replies, I therefore went for the gold scart leads which really did make a lot of difference, but still nothing to rave about, I just felt the LCD TV was more for the square eyed children glued to their XYZ whatever boxes and their games ?0
