My OH & myself run a small transport company and obivously are suffering because of the fuel prices. One of our drivers has slowed down & is saving us £10 per day average on his fuel.

I believe that some of our other drivers could do this also saving us fuel, cutting the risk of an accident and vehicle wear & tear so we are looking into a tracking system.

There is loads of stuff on the web & I have arranged a couple of demo's but wondered if anyone out there as already done this. I do think that the cost will be more than covered by the savings.

    Has anyone any advice/recommendations?
Here's some advice for someone who has been a professional driver for 15 years and has clocked up over 1.5 million miles.

Send them all on a proper defensive and economic driving course and also introduce an incentive scheme where the person with the best economy per month gets a bonus.

Simply driving slower won't save fuel and any savings would be offset by the increased wage bill. It also won't stop accidents.

I've done a proper defensive and economical driving course. Apart from the gains in economy, wear and tear on brakes, clutch and gearbox was achieved (they teach you to halve the number of gearchanges and time approaches to roundabouts and traffic lights so you don't need to stop) and journey time was REDUCED. I regularly average 10MPG from a 44 tonne artic, get 37MPG from my 22 year old 2L Capri and 58MPG from my 2L MK3 Mondeo diesel.

Unless your drivers are doing unexpected mileage, trackers are a waste of money and I know of more than one firm who have and are paying for trackers that put a pretty picture on a monitor at one end of the office that gets completely ignored.
