Just for your info, I did the same recently.
I was looking to upgrade my desktop RAM from 1gb to 2gb and did a check on Crucial. The price at Crucial came to about £60 but sellers on Ebay were selling for around £30. I went for Ebay. Big mistake !

The RAM didnt work. My Pc started beeping when booting up.
I thoroughly checked the specs of the RAM before i bought them to make sure it is compatible and it appeared so. I'm not getting any response form the seller so it does look like i have been sold dud ones.
I'll stick to crucial next time

Thank you so much for all the replies, can someone have a look at the above link and see if thats a good buy? I'd get one from crucial.com, but if I can save £10 then that would be great, as it is this money is having to ocme out of my daughters birthday fund!

It looks attractive at 19 pounds, but it is the less compatible high density memory.
In that case, you would have to be more specific as to the specification of your machine.
You can do so by downloading and running; CPU-Z. You can produce an html dump to post here.

I would do this before purchasing any RAM.

Otherwise you can play it safe and pay a little more for the surely compatible low density memory, here @ 28.49.
Not sure of the Crucial price or if they will supply low density memory in your case.

If on a budget, you can spend 12.49 an extra 512MB.

Crucial will always supply ram that should work if you use their online guide, that and the lifetime warrantee are the reason I use them for almost all my ram even though they are often a bit more expensive (I would prefer to spend an extra few pounds and know it's going to work, and if it doesn't the support is there).

If the answer to every RAM question was "buy from Crucial", there would be no need to ask the question.

Be aware that the crucial sight is wrong at times as they dont supply all Mobo specs especially when they say a certain PC may take 2x512 but were in the UK and that maybe 2x256 as they sometimes use the US guides even when on the UK site.
