GLEN had a28i junior fitted in march its broken down 3 times in 8 months
didnt use the heating much in summer.
Ithink they have an on going problem with the heat exchangers
mines packed in twice ,it works ok but it makes a racket
ITs fitted in the kitchen and we can hardly hear the telly in the living room when its running
Worcester-bosch have been helpful but how helpful they will be in march when waranty runs out i dont know

I'm not saying it's necessarily true in your case but this often happens when the old system isn't flushed properly and the plate heat exchanger waterways become blocked, if it is the case it can invalidate the warranty.

Has anyone any comments on these 2? Looking to get a new combi for 2 bed maisonette, no bath only a shower and 1 person living there. Mid terrace.
Found prices for £575 and £650 respectively, whats your opinion on these?
    Many thanks in advance

new system was complete apart from 1 rad that they left in
    place and joined tonew system
  • Even new systems need thorough cleansing with a commissioning cleasner to remove flux residues which can be extremely corrosive. Sludge from just one rad would be enough to block a normal plate exchanger. Like I said, it may be something else but it's the first thing I'd be looking for if I was called out to it.

im pretty sure the heat exchanger is aluminium.
the engineer that came to change it said it was not an uncommon
problem for them to go .
when its playing up it sounds like its boiling water and its got nowhere
    to go
  • The Worcester 28i Junior RSF is totally different to the Worcester Greenstar 28i Junior, the former doesn't have a plated domestic heat exchanger just the main aluminium bi-thermal you described.

I've fitted both of these boilers.
I think they are great boilers, easy to fit, reliable and well made.

I prefer the 28i , gives a bit better flow rate on the hot water side.

I had this boiler fitted over 2 yrs ago, each time it rains it i can hear it hitting on flue of boiler then rain seeps in through boiler, it then shuts down, and takes hrs to kick back in again. This time it took 7 days to re-start, plumber says it is a cheap boiler and doesn't think it has anything to do with the rain, that the boiler has to be stripped down and looked at properly by gas fitter, to find out what exactly is wrong.

  • Hi, just moved into my flat, I have a question. on the bolier- junior 28i, will it cost more if i turn the knob to maximum than if I have it half way ? Do i need it on maximum ?

I know its a silly question, but i just need to clarify !

    Thanks

If you mean for the heating then it will cost more as you are heating the water to a higher temperature BUT that should mean that radiators give off more heat and therefore the heating needs to be on for a shorter time....
  • I have had a 28i Junior combi condensing since April 2007. The thing has broken down twice, both times major parts have been replaced. Although the manufacturers warranty covers the boiler, it makes me wonder what will go wrong once the warranty has expired.
Maybe it's the current practice, but the warranty on a Worcester-Bosch is pretty limited for an appliance that is supposed to last 15 years or more.
I can't recommend this boiler to anyone.
