Accommodation problems

Hi everyone,
In my first year at Derby Uni as a 'mature' student :rotfl: and as I've had my own place (rented) for a fair few years, I've built up a lot of furniture and 'stuff'! Haha!! Couldn't move into Halls of Residence as would have nowhere to put my things so managed to find a TINY one bed flat which I managed to just about cram everything into - it's piled up to the ceiling in most places though so I can't actually use half of what I have.
I have had so many problems living here (no heating, no hot water, mould, mice, ceiling fell down in bathroom!) so I'm desperate to get out when my contract ends but once again I have the problem of what to do with all of my stuff!! I can't live in a shared house as I would need at least 2 rooms, but also I suffer from mental health problems that make me EXTREMELY difficult to live with!! Not gonna go and murder people in their sleep, but I might scream at them if they don't do the washing up in 'the right order'!!
Haha!! Anyway, I digress!! So, I looked at the uni approved student accommodation list and there isn't any 1 or 2 bed places at all!! The minimum they had was 3 bed houses which I wouldn't be able to afford on my own. Been searching and searching and searching the private lettings but the majority won't have me as I'm not employed fulltime  I'm completely stuck for somewhere to live as there is no way I'm gonna stay where I am as the Landlord wants to increase the rent!!
Just wondered if anyone had any advice or is experiencing a similar problem.
Thanks for reading, didn't mean to ramble on so much!!

If it's the stuff that's the problem then you've really 2 options; store it if you can afford to or get rid of it. I know that the second sounds drastic but you may find that when you look at it there's nothing really worth anything and you could get it all again when you start work. I say this from experience having recently moved countries and realised that I could buy all new furniture for less than the cost of moving it!
I doubt that there's many students who can afford a whole flat to themselves unless they work all hours. Could you cope with renting a larger place and having others in as lodgers rather than house sharers? You could keep more control over your environment that way.0 -
Well I did get rid of loads of stuff before I moved and have been slowly but surely getting rid of more and more over the past few months (Freecycle of course!!) but it is more of a decluttering than anything else. I know my budget and stick to it, so I can afford a flat on my own, it's just finding one thats the problem! Although saying that, I've just had a phone call to go and view one this afternoon and they said that although they don't ususally take students, because I'm 'mature' :rotfl: they will consider me!! :j
It's the same rent as I'm paying now but much bigger, AND in the city centre!! Hehe!! Maybe my little rant last night brought me some good luck!!:D:ADFW Nerd 145

Will anyone go guarantour for you? Or failing that could you put down a v large deposit ie 4 months or something?0

Does your uni have any accommodation for couples or post grads? These can sometimes be larger than normal halls of residence and have all the facilities in one place so more like living in a small flat. You may be able to get priority if you have a diagnosed mental illness. Otherwise I would suggest talking to the accommodation office at uni or student support.0
