Toronto, Niagra & New York on the cheap?!

Yes we did get engaged out there.
We went as part of a tour with travelscope (pity they are gone now)
So we paid about £25 pp for the meal at the CN tower. It was very nice and its a lovelly place up there to eat. Espicially at night, if you have good weather you can see the lights at Niagara.
When looking at the prices you really need to look and see how much it is just to go up the tower normally and count that into the price of a meal. I dont think it works out that expensive.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
Myself and Mrs Baker went to Toronto last November and had a meal in 360 at the top of the CN Tower. The food and service were fabulous and it really was not expensive when, as Jem8472 says, it includes the trip up the tower too. This space has been intentionally left blank0

I'm trying to sort out our route from Niagara to New York, can anyone reccommend any good websites for this? Or give any hints on points of interest along the way. I would like to try to only stay in/eat in 'mom and pop' type places is possible..
Any tips/hints/stories would be great!0 -
letchworth state park ???? ....i wouldn't go all the way down the new york state thruway ( I90 ) as it's tedium personified.
so I-90 E ....I-390 ...I-86 / RT-17 E then continue on RT-17 towards NY ...at the end of RT-17 where it meets the NY state thruway is woodbury common which is an outlet village with loads of mentions on this forum.
the above route has lots of places to stop and eat along the way
if you are serious about taking this route and tell me where you are heading to in New York and i'll re-check the route for you ....this route goes past the catskills and is just prettier to look at than the thruway ...it's dual carriageway , less distance ,probably quicker , no tolls other than the initial I-90 part and really is a lot easier to get off and find a small town etc
have a look at letchworth state park as this is just off this route , darien lake theme park is also near , the corning glass museum is also a stop if that's your thing
word of warning generally but particuarly parts of this route is don't speed it really isn't worth it0 -
Thanks hammy!!
Can you suggest anywhere online that would show roadmaps. I had a scout about, plenty of places will give you driving directions but can't seem to find a map of the route. I like the idea of ending up at Woodbury Common, could just make out like we stumbled across it and trick OH into going *evil laugh*
We are travelling down from Niagara to NYC on 18 June, we don't check in in NYC til 19th so hoping to find a wee motel type place for night of the 18th.
As for the speeding thing..OH will be driving so speed aint his strong point!! lol0 -

use the US AAA site ....14020 is a NY state zip code to get you through the system
for the route i suggested you would put in Niagara Falls then Corning then Central Valley (all NY state )
hopefully this link will be a direct one for the route

edit the link doesn't work but it gets you into the AAA site
in the woodbury common (central valley ) area you have West Point military academy and Bear Mountain Park.
where have you booked for NYC and are you keeping the car then ...also have you hired the car yet ?0 -
check boltbus.com and megabus.com as they are doing cheap bus rides to Toronto and NY.Save saynoto0870.com in your favorites, and stop giving companies more £££ dialling 0870 numbers when you can dial freephones or cheaper alternatives
call your credit card company, tell them that you want to leave, 99% of the time theyll lower your APR%
Remember when that Bank Manager or Salesperson smiles at you, all he sees is £ notes. Dont forget the motto, "the wider their grin, the more debt your in"0 -

We've booked St James hotel in NYC. No, we are planning to drop the car off outside NYC and travel in by bus/train.
Haven't booked car yet. I am thinking it may be easier to pick up the car from Bufallo, as it seems it may be a problem taking the car from Canada to the States. Any recommendations for companies to try? Already had a look at Avis, Dollar etc but not decided for definite..
Thanks0 -
checkout the greyhound webby Im sure they have route maps we used them and they have nice busses and are seriously cheap.
We did niagara to cleveland 300 miles-ish for 10 quid each0 -

you could see how competitive hertz are (i use them and national but get it via my companies cdp) ....if you could get a one way rental to North White Plains hertzs' depot is just across the street from the North White Plains train station...the trains from here will take you into Grand Central at a cost of just under $7 per adult off peak. btw it takes less than an hour on the train
the hertz depot is easy to find particularly if you come down from upstate via either of the main routes from buffalo.0
