Acer Laptop - refund/ replacement?

My son bought an Acer laptop for Uni last september and it has been parcelled back to Acer TWICE and had the hard drive replaced and it is dead again inside of a week and without being set up fully.
It came from Comet and I've been reading Millionaire's post (further down) about the experience with Toshiba/Comet. Could it be a rubbish laptop or fundamentally faulty ? I'm now asuming that our best bet is to pursue complaints with Acer rather than Comet who were utterly useless when it was taken back there in the first fault incidence. Am I right ? Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

hi
i bought an acer just over 2 years ago and it suffered problems a few months back.
it failed to charge...turned out the DC jack was faulty...ordered a new dc jack off ebay, and bought a soldering ion...a lot of hard work later, i managed to replace it and its been working fine since.
the acer itself has like 15 mins battery life now which is pathetic.
in all, after this experience, i'd avoid acer laptops.
with regard to your specific situation, im not sure what u can expect from acer except to take ur laptop (as it is within warranty period) and fix it.0 -
Thanks rKermali, it's been posted back to Acer twice so far - fine for me as I'm at home but some people would have to take time off work to see the parcel off.
My o/h has an acer he's had for four years and no problems, works like a dream, which makes me think this one is like a "Friday Car" i.e. for anyone who remembers the British motor industry (Brummie person speaking here).0 -
you should buy direct from

Don't deal with acer directly, your contract is with comet, if they can't provide you with a working laptop you're entitled to a full refund.0

I am on my second Acer, the first one was a travelmate, and it was returned for repairs a stunning 17 times in 14 months, for everything from fan system failure, lack of keyboard feedback, faulty sound card, inability to load, and not recognising the internal hard drive. I was always instructed to send it to acer, not ebuyer who I purchased off, and they would always fix it, but then something else went wrong. In the end I was told that the model itself was not designed for everyday use, and was given a discount on a new aspire 5630, which i use now, it was fine for the first year, then unbelievably the day after the warranty expired it started randomly cutting out as it gets too hot. Acer won't offer me any help anymore. My advice is go direct to acer, ask them if the model has known faults, but don't let things get out the warranty as you'll be high and dry.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
