please help.barclays mess up and now want £364

I was wondering if anyone may have some advice re our home insurance.

Our policy for home and contents with barclays is £360 for the year, this was up for renewal in october 07. My husband paid on his credit car, but the bank took it from my account as well. They advised me to put in a claim to my bank which i did immediately. They also ended up refunding my husbands credit card. My husband rang them twice and informed them of this and they assured us that no, that account was up to date and paid.

We recieved a letter last week stating that the bank had not informed them that a claim had been made and we are thus needing to pay them £364 immediately. My husband has spoken to them again,and the advisor he spoke to claims he actually works for norwich union and that barclays sell their insurance for them, and that the blame lies with barclays. we have asked for this in writing but are unsure if it will arrive.

Does anyone know where we stand in terms of having to pay now etc? We are concerned as we will have to pay the whole amount again in october. We have lost confidence in the competence of barclays

    As you appear to know that you had paid twice and been refunded twice, surely you knew you would have to pay at some point when the company discovered the error or were you hoping to get it free?

    Whilst it's obviously an inconvenience, clearly you have no grounds on which to refuse payment.

    When the policy renewed you agreed to pay the premium. It hasn't been paid thus far, so you still owe it. And in fact you're better off in a way as you have earned interest on the £360 since October.
