Computer Problem

Help....
My sons computer will not load up windows. All that happens is he gets a black screen which says windows has encountered a problem and you get to select how you want to log on ie
safe mode,
safe mode with networking,
safe mode with command prompt only,
Last known best configuration
and
load windows normally,
we have tried all of these but nothing works it just keep coming up with this black screen...
We have also put in an XP disc into the CD drive to see if it can boot up and overwrite the windows files...but that did not work either.
Hopefully there is anyone out there who knows how to fix this problem. :confused:MINMOUSE

to get the pc to boot from the cd, you'll need to enter the BIOS, usually by pressing the delete key, or F2 when the pc starts to boot (a message should appear telling you which to press) once in the bios, change boot device priority to cd/dvd first, then HDD 0 save and exit. the pc should now boot from cd

did you get to the bios setup screen? did you change boot priototy/order to cd/dvd first (and save changes)? if you did there's no reason i can think of why it wouldnt boot the xp disk, unless the disk is a bad copy, not an original, or you have 2 cd/dvd drives and the disk is in the wrong one

My sons friend came around and somehow managed to fix it - amazing what a 16 year old can do . My dh and I were both baffled.
    Many thanks for tips though.
