claims help - worth claiming for new shower?

Our shower is leaking and has rotted a floorboard underneath. We were given a quote of around £1000 to replace the shower but have decided since we're doing that we should replace the whole bathroom instead. It's an ongoing and stressful process!
Someone said to me today that water escape would be covered under home insurance. I have never claimed before after many years of cover so have no idea how it would work.
Would my premiums go up loads? Is it worth it? How would it work if I was also going to replace the whole bathroom.
Any help/advice very gratefully received.

Home insurance is not my speciality but I imagine that rotted floorboards would be excluded due to the leak being a gradual process, and not caused by a single identifiable event.
As far as the shower itself is concerned, if it was leaking due to improper installation or lack of maintenance then it certainly won't be covered. It may be covered if it was leaking due to accidental damage.0 -
Thanks, that's useful insight!0
