Yes it is getting very serious now. We are in a double whammy. Stuff going up in price and our income dropping rapidly. I am self employed. No matter what the news tells us, every self employed person I know is starting to struggle.

I can't get in the cheap shops. Oh I forgot I am dreading getting the kids' new uniforms - all from a specialist supplier (got to go there!!) - expecting to have to fork out at least £400.

does your school not have a second hand shop that you can get pre owned uniform from? Or what about friends with older children at the school that can pass down their school uniform. It doesn't HAVE to be new does it?

Whilst I know that it doesn't help much, we are in NZ and our landlord is se as a painter/decorator. He usually know what he is doing for the next two months, now he only knows what he is doing for the next two weeks

What makes me laugh is when Gordon Brown says "I know what you're going through!" as he tucks into his swan burger.
The poor mite can only buy 4 tins of caviar per week now.

Thank goodness the Supermarkets are bringing petrol prices down, I know their buying power can cause problems sometimes but right now I'm grateful for it!

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

Well he does know. Everyone is flirting with unemployment.

    And so is he.

On a similar vein - have people seen this?

  • We've even had to budget for our dogs and instead of a complete dry dog food Tesco ordinary, the have now moved onto Tesco Value, which is still going up 20p a week in price and the bags are smaller to begin with. 1 bag will serve our 2 two meals a day for 5 days! I cant cut their meals down to 1 meal a day as that would be cruel.

It does make me wonder though if this Value brand is false economy and health dilemas smaller packaging amounts and poorer quality ingredients with higher calories, fat and sugar contents.

Its getting cheaper to buy ready meals than 'make fresh from scratch'!

Going to have to learn how to sell on Ebay!

Hubbys getting more people wanting their cars cleaned as they are selling them and the bigger 4x4's and peoplecarriers have vanished from our roads and he hasnt done many of them lately. He used to have at least 5 a week hes lucky to get 1 a month to clean now now! Yet he hasnt increased his prices as local carwash will soon be matching his basic price and hes hoping that will bring in more custom as people save money on petrol and get him to go to them and for a couple of pounds more they get more than a basic car wash! He also noticed people are looking after them more now not using them as mobile skips!

We still very much ready to tip over the borderline though if it continues. I for one am considering moving back in with inlaws or moving home to be with parents in Wales, but cant expect any of them to 'keep us' can we they struggling too as only have government state pensions and only have 1 inlaw working part time to scrape the pennies in as other in law is disabled - cant even afford extra care and is needing help to pay for careline allarm soon as she has to work to pay off debts and stuff as we all do. Its criminal and I hate seeing it! Its so wrong!
