Advice please as Paypal & Ebay won't advise!

Sold gift vouchers on ebay for £38. Buyer has asked me to send to a UK address. His registered address is in the US and all activity (lots of it!) on his account is selling collectors mags, menus etc. He says he's just arrived in the UK.

I'm v suspicious. Why would this person want to buy Arcadia vouchers? He's paid by paypal - I phoned them and was told they could not discuss another's account with me, which I obviously concur with, but I didn't want to discuss it, just notify them and let them go off & have a look for themselves, e.g. have passwords etc been changed?

Ebay have told me to email him & ask him to confirm his identity  , which does not strike me as v helpful as I don't suppose he'll 'fess up if I ask him who he really is  . Also, if I ask for his contact details they'll give him mine, which again I don't want  .

Am v surprised - someone hacked into my ebay & paypal accounts last year & they realised & reversed transactions even before I did.

Anyway, rant over. I've sent him a message saying I'll only send to verified address so can he please change. Have I done the right thing, and, more importantly will I be covered if I do send & it is a scam?

Thanks peeps :T

I think he can add another address to paypal and it will show as confirmed if his other address is confirmed.
Not sure if him being a US member may complicate this though.

I would sent them SD too (are vouchers covered?)

He has this text on his current listings

Please note that while my account is registered in the US, I am in the UK from where these items will be mailed to you. Please check my excellent feedback and bid in confidence! Inquire about international p+p rates or combining multiple wins. Payment is due 3 days from the end of the auction. Please check out my other auctions and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Yikes - how did you find him..... this is only on his 2 most recent items, I can't see it on any completed sales, so whoever I think is using his account could have added on.

Don't see how SD will help, as presumably someone will sign for them?

If the paypal address in the UK is not confirmed then you are not covered for loss. Check out the paypal checklist on the sticky thread 'helpful hints'.

If you don't have a confirmed address then personally I would not send the goods due to their value and explain to the buyer why and take a neg if necessary. It wouldn't bother me for cheaper items, but £38 is out of my comfort level.

I have a buyer at the moment with a different country address to that registered, however she has confirmed her new address so although the registration and paypal address don't match I am covered as the paypal address is confirmed.

Perhaps explain your concerns to the buyer and ask if he can pay by another method. Then you can refund his paypal payment and free yourself from Paypal claims etc
