Is it ok to paint over mahogany doors etc

My OH is totally against this but I am sick to death of all the mahogany in our house. It was the height of fashion when we built the house but not so now. I would like to paint the doors, skirtings and architraves. Would it be possible to return them to their natural state at a later date if required the way you can with pine doors or would that be it?
Thanks in advance

NOOOOOOOOO!!! That is a terrible thing to want to do! Enjoy the richness of the mahogany, you are lucky to have it. A natural timber does not go out of fashion. It may not be the latest thing, being a bit darker, but it is natural.
We have mahogany doors, skirtings etc and love them. We have oak, beech and pine(furniture etc) in the kitchen, teak in the lounge, birch in other rooms, all the woods get on well together.
If you paint them you could strip them later, but I think it will be very difficult with the fixed timber to get it like new.
Please don't do it.0 -
Last year we spent 2 weeks over christmas sanding down all the mahogany on doors, windows, window sills, stair spindles, skirting boards etc in every room and then used a super grip primer and painting everything cream. I have to say it was the hardest and most booooorrrrriiiinnnng job i ever have done but i'm really proud of the results
our house was too little to have so much mahogany and although i would've loved a natural light timber, that would involve a lot of expense, it would've been impossible to get it to its orginal state and so we would have had to replace everything!
Love being a mummy
