When I try to start pc it comes up that there is a file missing and is unable to start ( system32\drivers\ntfs.sys )
It said to try and repair it by putting the XP home disc and press 'R' for repair!!
I've done this and tried typing in copy E:\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys
And copy E:\windows\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys
But both didn't work, now I'm stuck.
Is there any way to run a repair program from the XP home disc, or do you have to do it manually.

try
copy e:\i386\ntfs.sys c:\windows\system32\drivers
your copy commands weren't directing the copy anywhere, make sure your pc isn't significantly overclocked, as that can lead to the proble, and that all fans are free so overheating isnt the issueUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

Thanks that worked.
But at 1st the mouse would not work (only after 4 reboots and unplugging it)
Now my pc keeps crashing with blue screens and different faults!!!!
nv4_mini sys
tcpip.sys
page_fault_in_non_page_area
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS
ntfs.sys address F743C6A0 base F73fb000 (with a bleep ? coming from the case!!)
In all its very unstable, could a bad stick of RAM cause these problems ??No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
I hate to say this but I think your PC is dying....
if you have a backup, my advice would be do a complete reinstall and see how you get on, it is possible bad RAM or something could be at fault rather than the OS, did you recently change something ?0 -

I was thinking the same.
I haven't recently changed any thing , but the PC has been running a bit bad for the last few months, but it would have some weeks where there would be no problems at all then others when there nothing but problems!!:rolleyes:No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
can you start in safe mode without problems ?0

I'd go for, get it into safe mode, backup your data, rebuild0

You might also want to download Memtest and leave it running for a while to rule out RAM problems - for example SystemRescueCD has a copy of Memtest, and it's Open Source and free.
Also, be prepared for it to be your Hard Disk on the way out - particularly if SMART has tripped on the drive - download the drive maker's diagnostic utilities to find out if it has.0
