Ive been twice and the best way to do it is buy all your $'s in one go:

    http://www.travelex.co.uk/uk/default.aspx

Choose the "buy back plus" option for £3.50 which means you get the exact amount that you dont spend back in £'s at the same rate as what you paid.

Its also the best exchange rate around (guaranteed), and you can order the currency and pick it up at the airport on your way.

They have a safe in most hotel rooms so it will be secure.

You dont want to have to dash off to a cash machine when your in the middle of a game.

The first time I went I didn't choose the buy back plus option and I lost out big time

    Best for who?

the best exchange rate is a nationwide debit card and ATM....Of course if you need thousands in one go it is different
  • Interesting. I tried the las vegas thread but people have posted reviews of their own trips which takes up pages and pages. No offence to those users but it means the valuable information si VERY VERY hard to find! Thus the new post.

Ok so it looks like I have 2 options now:

    1) Buy it all in $ using the best exchange rate and for £3.50 i wont lose out on what i don't spend. Bearing in mind I'll be taking around £3500?

    2) Use a nationwide account where I can pay using their card without a charge and a good rate, but also withdraw though there's a limit and a charge

Could take £1000 in cash and the rest in a nationwide account?

EDIT: Will check out imperial palace thanks :)

  • Imperial similar price to Hooters :) Looks like I'll book there!

Ive only been once but I'd deffinately stay in a smaller 'off strip' hotel if I went again. I swear to god it was a half mile walk from our room to the front door.

Take your driving license too mate they ID'd me when i was 36 years old the nobs
  • I plan to take some ID as i would have only just turned 21 :)

And as for off the strip, I won't have a car. Due to the amount of public transport on the strip, I think I'll stay there :)

Looking like Imperial with a nationwide account and some cash as well :)

I can think of better things to spend $3000 on, plus you have the chance that within 5 days you will be bored, and spending £100 - £200 on shows etc.

How about split the trip 2 ways, a week in Las Vegas, and a week elsewhere.

example, 1 week in san francisco, and the 2nd in las vegas to spend whats left.
  • £3000.. so about $6000 :)

The thing is, though people's perception of poker change, it can be a profession :) It is a matter of skill when playing against "tourists", and it's what I love as I'm good at it and make a sub-income from it.

Due to this it's not about seeing the states and experiencing things like the Grand Canyon. Maybe when I go with my girlfriend that's the type of thing I'd do, split it up. I'm going primarily as a poker holiday. To play as a professional for 2 weeks in Vegas :)

Of course I'll go to shows and various other bits and bobs but the main aim is poker! :)
