Thermostatic Radiator Valves Reset?

Hi, I've got Terrier Thermostatic Radiator Valves on all but one of my radiators (as below)

Problem is, on the living room radiator the top part of the valve, the bit with the thermostatic bit in, became loose and came off. I put it back on and tightened up the nut/washer bit but it stopped working.
The radiator just pumps out heat as if it was on full (5). Only by turning it to off did it effect the heat. But this turns it off. Theres no middle ground.
Thinking that the thermostatic head part may be broken, I swapped it for the head of one if the other radiators.
Now both of them don't work -
Is there a special way to put these back on - I've tried setting to 0 and 5 before fastening down but no joy.
They've got me

W1zz. I have exactly the same TRV. You cannot install them incorrectly. If you take the head off and then look inside it there is a thread. A pin moves up and down on the thread which in turn pushes a nipple on the actual valve in or out. You are supposed to install it with the head set to 5 but I believe that's only because if you don't it's nearly impossible to refit it! I don't however know why it isn't working properly.0

Have you pressed the pin on the valve head in and out a few times and does it move freely ? It should !
Anyway, I have a load of these, they are good valves for the money but can be a bit fiddly to fit the heads.
To install it set the dial at number 5.
Then look at the inside of the valve head, i.e. the bit you screw on.
You should see the plastic shape that mates with the actual top of the valve. It has 7 or 8 flats.
locate this on the valve, press down firmly and rotate the locking nut. The nut should rotate easily.
Then adjust the valve to number 1 then back to number 5 just to be sure its properly engaged.
Obviously then set it at the actual number you want.
It should then work ok providing the valve itself is not duff
or clogged up.0
