pre-pay meters

I recently moved from a property which had a pre-pay electric meter and when I moved out got sent a bill for £25. When I called to tell Powergen I was moving and give them meter readings they never mentioned anything about an outstanding balance so I was suprised to get the bill and when I looked at the statements that I got from powergen every 3 months they were really random and had odd adjustments so it was very hard to make any sense of!

Just wondered if anyone knew if this is normal and why I would have a £25 bill when it was meant to be pre-pay!?

Pre-Pay should really be named 'pay something on account'!!

It is because they didn't get around to changing the price you pay on the meter when prices went up.

A disgraceful system that has provoked questions in Parliment(some owe £hundereds). BG and some other companies write off any debt like this because it is unfair - others don't.
  • Hiya,

Just wanted to say that I know the systems that Powergen (E-ON) use and the agent can't see what the bill calculates immediately so that's why the agent wouldn't have told you.

ps. I don't work there but someone in my family does....
  • I dont really blame the advisor on the phone, I was just suprised when the bill came! I haven`t paid it yet and am wondering now if I should make a fuss and see what they say.
